Sage Social Kitchen and Bar—which owner James D. Liakakos describes as “a fusion of dining with entertainment”—will be opening on the ground floor of Buckhead’s 3379 Peachtree Road office building in March or April in the spot formerly occupied by Morton’s Steakhouse.
Sage Social Kitchen and Bar will occupy 7,000 square feet with 3,000 square feet of private dining. But before it will open, major renovations and design changes are planned for the restaurant’s spot, including adding outdoor patio dining and cocktail service space.
Liakakos, along with representatives of the architectural firm R Design Works that is working on the renovation project, presented the plans to the SPI-12 (Special Public Interest District) Development Review Committee Wednesday, Oct. 5.
Additionally, Roseview-PMRG, the building’s joint owners, are renovating the main lobby and common areas of 3379 Peachtree with the goal of attracting office tenants that are looking for a Class-A office environment. Julie Motsinger, executive vice president operations for PRMG’s Eastern Division also was present at the Oct. 5 meeting.
“While we have been under renovation for a couple months now, we are really excited to finally announce that Sage Social Kitchen and Bar will bring a new restaurant concept to Buckhead and more specifically 3379 Peachtree,” said Bill Weghorst, managing director for PMRG’s Eastern Division.
“With Sage Social Kitchen and Bar becoming the focal point of the building, 3379 Peachtree has become the premiere, Class A, boutique office building in Buckhead,” added Weghorst.
The focus of the new exterior design for the northeast corner of the building is to give the restaurant and the building a much curb appeal and presence as possible, explained Chris Forest of R Design Works, who made most of the presentation to the DRC members.
The main entrance to Sage Social would remain on the front of the office building to the side of the newly renovated building lobby with new metal awning over the entry to the restaurant. The outdoor patio, which would include awnings, would be along the side street of Around Lenox Road.
Forest explained that the most noticeable change will be the added façade treatment, which will be a system of steel columns and steel beam cap to be placed in front of the existing curtainwall up to the third-flood level of the building and from which will be suspended various lengths of wood horizontal panels.
During the day, the horizontal louvers will provide a new exterior appearance and shadows it casts will create interest inside the space as well. At night the panels would be backlit with LED lights to draw attention to the restaurant.
On the east side of the building—which is between the W and Westin hotels—there will be a new 1,060- square-foot patio for outdoor dining and occasional live music. The patio will be enclosed by a 36-inch high stone faced wall with a gas firepit on top with glass guards to protect diners. The outside bar would also be covered with a metal canopy.
The outside bar patrons will be served from the inside via a new folding glass wall system that will allow the bartender inside to serve guests inside and outside when the glass wall is open. Doors on either side of the bar will provide guest access from inside to outside.
Liakakos told the DRC members he expects the outdoor patio would be open to patrons eight months out of the year. Asked about music, he anticipates a single guitarist performing live jazz music.
